When we lose a child, the time we spend with them is so short. There is so little time to create memories of those special moments. Memory boxes are a place to keep momentos of a lost child - photographs, perhaps a lock of hair, a hand print or footprint. And they are more than that. Memory boxes become a place to grieve, to remember and reflect, and in time, to draw comfort. Many parents confide in support workers saying how grateful they were for the boxes, and how, at such a dreadful time, they were something 'to hold on to'.

The boxes themselves are beautiful, of very high quality, containing a hand-knitted blanket, two teddy bears - one to keep & one to place with baby - a candle, a memory book for photographs and momentos, a keepsave box and cards and poems. There is also a complete pack of information leaflets from Sands. The items are sources, and the boxes packed, by bereaved parents. The blankets are generously donated by volunteer knitters, some of whom have lost babies of their own or are the grandparents of lost babies.

Bath Sands supplies the RUH, Bath with around 100 boxes per year.

The Buy a Memory Box appeal is now closed. Thank you so much for your generosity.
